Guidance and support for all
Our Personalised Learner Support Service offers a wide range of ways in which our learners are fully supported so they can achieve their full potential during their time with us.
A Personal Coach for every learner
You will be assigned a Personal Coach who will help you with your goals, check your progress and, if necessary, identify way to improve. You will have weekly group tutorials, along with others on your course. Your Personal Coach will also help you complete your Individual Learning Plan or ILP.
Your Personal Coach will be one of our tutors and will also be available to you on a one-to-one basis. And it’s not just course work and College life they can help with, there are also on hand if you want to talk about any problems you might be facing outside or at home.
Opportunity Coaches to help you achieve
If you are struggling with your work, or lack motivation and need a confidence boost we also have a team of Opportunity Coaches. These friendly, reassuring Coaches are well trained to help you get back on track. We are one of the few Colleges in the UK who have invested in Motivational Dialogue Techniques because we know they work.
You can be referred to one of our Opportunity Coaches through your Personal Coach, or you can contact the team yourself if you think they can help. Please email sonia.gunn@barkingdagenhamcollege.ac.uk

Youth and Community Worker
Richard Young is on hand to help improve your experience whilst studying here at Barking and Dagenham College. This includes giving informal advice and support to learners on a one-to-one basis, but to also organise different College events and activities for groups.
One of Richard’s main roles is to work closely with the student union executive committee, the student council and to organise our Welcome Fayre and induction activities every September.
College Nurse
The health of our learners is of the highest importance to us, that’s why we have a fully trained Nurse available at our main Rush Green campus, as well as a team of first aiders.
Our Nurse can offer advice on medical conditions and can refer learners on to other medical agencies. She helps to organise the Sexual Health Clinic which is available in the College on a regular basis, and helps organise a series of themed days including giving up smoking, drug awareness and sexual health.
