What qualifications do I need?
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals. You should have at least two GCSEs at grade C in Mathematics and a related Science subject, however, we will also consider applicants with other qualifications and on merit. Please note due to funding changes this qualification is funded for 16-18 year olds but for 19+ adults this is a full cost recovery programme so no funding or fee remission is available.
We look forward to meeting you at interview.
What will I learn?
Electricians will always be needed. You may have ambitions to be your own boss and run your own company, or you may wish to join one of the many career paths open to qualified electricians. This course will start you on that path because we start from scratch and do not expect you to have any previous knowledge or experience about electricity.
You will learn in state-of-the-art workshops from professionals who have actually worked in the electrical industry. The course is an exciting mix of practical learning and theory, covering topics such as:
Electrical Installation Theory & Practice
Circuit design and Layout
Electrical Science and Electronics
Health and Safety Regulations and Practice
Practical Installation Exercises
Electrical Regulations
All equipment and tools will be provided, but you will need to supply your own protective boots while in the workshop.
How will I be taught?
In the practical sessions we teach you everything you need to know from the basics upwards. We show you correct use of equipment, tools and wiring techniques.
What you learn in the practical workshops is reinforced in classroom theory.
How will I be assessed?
There are 4 on-line multiple chioce exams, plus you will produce a main assignment which will be a combination of a written submission and practical assessment in the workshop.
During the course there will also be a number of smaller assignments which will contribute to your overall mark.
What could I do next?
Once you have found employment in the electrical industry, you could study at the next level – the City & Guilds 2330 Level 3 Electrical Installation – one day a week at Barking & Dagenham College.
This Level 3 qualification is an essential step in becoming an approved and qualified electrician.
