About the College: Guidance & Support

Counselling & Advice Service

Confidentiality

All the services given are in the strictest confidence. You must give your permission if someone else is to be told. Counselling gives you the time and space to talk about something important to you. It is a friendly busy service used by hundreds of students each term. "A problem shared is a problem halved". The College Counsellor, is an accredited counsellor and abides by the standards and ethics of the British Association of Counsellors. You can book to see the College Counsellor very quickly if needed. Most situations are resolved with 3 - 5 sessions; some students may wish to have counselling for a longer period and this is also possible.

Here are just some of the reasons that students have given for using the service:

  • "I feel depressed - I don't know why"
  • "I am lonely - I don't seem to be able to make friends"
  • "I go to pieces in exams"
  • "I was abused as a child and want to talk to someone"
  • "I am not eating"
  • "I don't get on with my parents"
  • "I think I am pregnant"
  • "Im worried about money"
  • "Ive got problems at home"
