Find a Course: How to Choose a Course

Colleges can be large and bewildering places for people who have not been in education since their school days and also for school leavers used to a smaller school environment. The thought of starting at college or returning to education may be appealing but quite frightening. So how do you decide which of the many courses to take, how do you go about applying and how do you take the first steps to finding out more?

At Barking and Dagenham College the first step is to call in or phone the Admissions Office and ask for a prospectus listing all our courses. You can also ask for a detailed information leaflet about any courses of particular interest. This may well be enough to help you decide which course you want to apply for. After that if you still feel unsure about which course to choose, ask for an appointment with the college Careers Adviser. The Adviser can then help you to decide which course would be the best for you and explain how to apply for a place. You can also talk about where the course would lead to in terms of careers or find out which courses are required for a particular career.
